Lexington High School Wildcats

Tonight many area high school football enthusiasts will be closely watching the on-field match-up between the Lexington High School Wildcats and the Spring Valley Vikings. Some even consider it the game of the week to watch in the Midlands. Both teams enter this match-up with an undefeated record for this season and both teams are looking very good with lots of talent.

From my Wildcat Mom perspective, I can tell you that Lexington looks good on the field and is exciting to watch. Sophomore quarterback William Hunter, senior wide receivers Shaq Roland and Jalen Cook, senior running backs Kevin Miller and Brannon Miller, and many others make the game look relatively easy to play. I’ve had the pleasure of watching many of these young men since they were 8 years old playing in the Lexington Youth Football Program on Ballpark Road.

I’ve gotten to know many of these young men and their families through lots of nights at the practice field during rec football, the progression to middle school football, and now high school football on Friday nights. Many are longtime and faithful Todd & Moore customers. We all rally together to provide beverages and snacks during summer workouts and two-a-days, pre or post game meals for pre-season scrimmages, and of course to cheer them on during regular season games.

We become FAMILY on Friday nights as we watch OUR boys on the field. Our second ranked Wildcats (2-0) have not disappointed as they have scored 115 points and amassed 1,031 yards so far this season. They are working hard during weekly practices and are getting the job done on-the-field on Friday nights.

What many in the Midlands don’t know is that these same young men, along with the Varsity Cheerleaders are also working hard off-the-field to raise awareness and funds to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure for type 1 diabetes. They believe in giving back to their community that has given so much to them. They have a heart for their fellow students, teachers, coaches, and others in their community living with diabetes.

While the Friday evening news and Saturday morning paper will tell of their on-the-field heroics, I’m proud to share about their off-the-field community involvement.

On Sunday, October 30th, the Wildcats Walk For A Cure team will join many others from all over the Midlands to participate in the annual JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes. This team will be made up of Varsity Football players, cheerleaders, coaches, fellow students, teachers, and their families. For the next 7 weeks they will be focusing on academics, winning football games and cheerleading competitions, and making time to participate in awareness and fundraising activities to support JDRF’s mission to find a cure for diabetes.

I think this makes them winners on and off the field.

Proud to be a Wildcat mom,
