I’ve already confessed that I’m not an athlete. I don’t play or participate in a sport that requires equipment although there is enough equipment at my house to open another store. If you can swing it, throw it, hit it, bounce it, (you know the jingle), we’ve got it at my house!
I simply run. Besides appropriate wicking apparel, a supportive sports bra and my Ipod, all I need are the brand and style of running shoes that fit my feet properly and address the type of runner I am and my arch type. After taking the wet test as described on www.runnersworld.com, I determined that I have a NORMAL foot. Yeah for me!
Borrowed from Runner’s World…
Normal feet have a normal-sized arch that causes a runner to land on the outside of the heel and roll inwards slightly to absorb shock. It’s the foot of a runner who is biomechanically EFFICIENT and needs a stability shoe with moderate control features. Normal and efficient…I’m liking the sound of this!
Fortunately, all running shoes fall into one of three categories, cushioned, motion control, or stability. Once it has been determined which type you need as a runner, it is easier to start shopping. Before you head over to see us, let me encourage you to do your research (not purchasing) on-line. There is a wealth of information that I won’t recant here about running, running shoes, and how to choose the proper one for you. It’s good stuff and it will guide you before you step foot in Todd & Moore to try on shoes.
Yes friends, you have to try on your running shoes! You can’t just choose by cool colors once you know what type you need. Proper fit is just as important as determining the type you need. It is very common for people to size up at least a half a size in a running shoe. Running is a forward motion activity, therefore your foot moves forward in your shoe. There must be enough space between your big toe and the end of the shoe or else your running career may be over before it gets started.
Our trained sales associates can guide you to choose the right shoe for you and help you determine if it fits properly or not, but ultimately the decision on fit is up to you. You are wearing the shoes!
The BEST running shoe is the one that meets your needs as a runner and fits your feet properly. That could be a New Balance, Nike, Adidas, Saucony, Asics, or Mizuno model. For me it’s the Asics GT 2160. Year in and year out, it is chosen as an Editor’s Pick by Runner’s World magazine as being a great bang for your buck.
For me, it’s entirely appropriate what the acronym stands for…ASICS, an acronym derived from the Latin phrase, Anima Sana In Corpore Sano - a sound mind in a sound body.
Happy shopping,
