New Year, New You

I am not a fitness or nutrition professional. I have learned what I know about losing weight and getting fit by my own personal research and experience. I know that losing weight, getting fit and staying fit takes work. It takes the good, old-fashioned kind of work. No one can do it for you. There are no shortcuts. There are no secrets. No matter what you hear in the media there is no magic diet, special shake or medication.

Losing weight and getting fit requires a decision and commitment to get up and get moving. It requires making changes in the way you think and in what and when you eat. If you are willing to make the necessary changes, you will see results over time. No one puts on a lot of weight on overnight, and it won’t and should not come off quickly. Statistics prove that the key to maintaining long term weight loss is slow, gradual loss by eating a proper diet and getting appropriate exercise for the rest of your life.

Here are my tried and true tips:
• Eat a healthy breakfast every day of the week.
• Eat breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, and supper every day. It is better to eat 5 small meals a day than one huge meal.
• Eat foods from their natural state as often as you can. This means fresh meats, fruits & vegetables. Shop with your local farmers for a great selection of produce or join a neighborhood co-op.
• Eliminate unnecessary sugar from your diet.
• Choose healthy carbs and eat the not-so-healthy ones sparingly.
• Plan your meals and snacks. Don’t leave them to chance or you’ll end up at the office vending machine when hunger strikes.
• Keep a food and exercise journal. You will be amazed at what you learn.
• Begin an exercise program after doing extensive research about what is best for you.
• Find a friend to exercise with for accountability.
• Come see me at Todd & Moore for help in selecting appropriate shoes and apparel for your fitness journey.

I can’t guarantee that your journey will be easy or that you will see immediate changes. I can guarantee you will feel better mentally and physically day by day.
