It’s Great To Be A Gamecock…
I was raised in the upstate of South Carolina where pastures and farmland are plentiful. You guessed it, I was raised a Tiger fan. My Brooklyn born and bred father moved south after a stint in the Navy, met and married my Tarheel born and bred mom and settled in Laurens, SC. Is it any wonder I was a tad confused?
Seriously, I grew up wearing orange, going to Tigertown, and assuming I would be a lifetime member of IPTAY. I decided to major in advertising and public relations and the USC School of Journalism beckoned. I moved to Columbia and was the first in my family to come over to the Cocky side!
After being heavily recruited by both Carolina and Clemson, my sister’s son, Matthew Campbell, committed to play baseball for the Gamecocks in 2001. My sweet Daddy loved “his” Tigers and bled orange, but out of great love for Matt, he wore garnet and black proudly.
Even my Daddy learned to appreciate how great it is to be a Gamecock! You see, my Daddy knew a lot about…
• Having FUN and enjoying great FOOD. The USC Ultimate Tailgaters and legions of other Gamecock fans know how to tailgate and do it right. Pre and post-game festivities are as important as the games.
• Remaining FAITHFUL to your team in times of plenty and times of drought. The Gamecock Nation is known for faithfully following their teams through thick and thin.
• Being FASHIONABLY attired in your college colors for games. Being a faithful fan means dressing the part in garnet and black. Everyone looks good and thinner in black!
• FRIENDSHIP and it’s rewards. My deepest and most longstanding friendships were forged while attending USC and my circle of friends continues to be enlarged because I’m a Gamecock FAN.
As a Carolina alumni and Gamecock fan for thirty years, I’ve cheered for a Heisman Trophy winner, survived the chicken curse, and seen my share of plenty and of drought. I’ve felt the chills and goosebumps of Back To Back NCAA College World Series Championships. (Not sure that it gets any better, but I’d love to see a hat trick in baseball!)
It only seems fitting that I work at Todd & Moore in the heart of the Vista Shopping District of downtown Columbia. We are conveniently located on the way to see the Gamecocks play baseball at Carolina Stadium, basketball at the Colonial Life Arena, and football at Williams Brice Stadium. We carry most everything you need to have FUN and enjoy good FOOD while FAITHFULLY following the Gamecocks and sharing good times with FRIENDS.
Stop in, shop with us for your college colors in the month of August and show everyone how great it is to be a Gamecock!
