The Good, The Bad, The Ugly...

Monday morning at Todd & Moore, it will all be analyzed and discussed. Every good, bad and ugly play and coach’s decision in the Gamecocks come from behind victory over East Carolina will be picked apart, questioned or lauded, mostly among the male employees, Mr. Coats, and anyone else willing to join in on the landing. It will be rehashed and agonized over until the next game day. The Gamecock’s big victory will undoubtedly be the topic of conversation at the water cooler or coffee area in most places of business in the Midlands, at least by Tuesday morning since Monday is Labor Day.

I’ve witnessed it at Todd & Moore for over 20 years. Everyone has an opinion and everyone likes to weigh in on theirs. Especially when it comes to sports and sports talk. It’s another one of those typical, yet special things about working in a sporting goods store. I anticipate it, I fully expect it, and I’m totally tired of it by 10:00 am. The Gamecocks either win or lose. Winning is good for business. Losing, not so much. But why beat a dead horse? There are way more important things to discuss after a football Saturday.

Like a female’s perspective on the good, the bad, and the ugly…

Now don’t get me wrong, girls love a good football game, but when girls get together to rehash the game, it’s all about the fashion, the food, and the fun! Girls discuss comfortable and functional game day apparel and where to buy it, who put out the best tailgate spread, and how much fun the pre and post game festivities were. You know, the important stuff.

Recipes are shared and swapped. Mental notes are taken on what everyone else was wearing and what new tailgating supplies someone was sporting. By Monday morning, the quest begins to find something new, cuter, and more fashion forward to wear or put out on the tailgate spread for the next game.

Something new every week. This is just how many female minds work when it comes to football. Win or lose, it’s all about a new Gamecock outfit, new jewelry, new tailgate food, new koozie and so on. Winning is good, but looking and feeling good is important too! Now that’s good for business!
