Running essentials

I’ve been training for months and the time is finally here. I’m heading to Savannah, Georgia to run in the inaugural Rock ‘N Roll ½ Marathon with 20,000 running buddies. I couldn’t be happier that tomorrow’s start time temperature is predicted to be 52 degrees. That makes packing and preparing just a tad easier.

Preparing and packing all the essentials for an out of town race is nearly as much work as the training, and for me, not nearly as fun and rewarding. I’m fortunate to work at Todd & Moore where I have great choices (I’m a buyer) and great prices to choose from to help with the preparation. With packing there’s way more to think about and take into consideration. With training, I just run.

For me, less is more, when it comes to apparel and accessories for running. From head to toe, this is what I’ll be wearing for my 13.1 mile run in the morning:

• Longsleeve Under Armour RUN tech t-shirt
• Champion sports bra
• Champion running shorts
• Nike Dri-fit socks
• Asics Gel 2160 running shoes
• Garmin sports watch
• Road ID identification bracelet
• Nathan Shadow Runner’s Pak

The Garmin and Runner’s Pak are both new additions for me. I haven’t worn a watch for 8 years and the Garmin is a bit bulky, but I’ve fallen in love with wearing it while I run. The Nathan runner’s pak is new for tomorrow’s race because I need a place for my cell phone and chapstick. The saying is nothing new on race day, so I’m hoping the runner’s pak does not literally become a thorn in my side while running!

I’m a bit sad that I’ll be missing out on the Governor’s Cup Road Race being held in Columbia tomorrow morning. 2500 of my other running buddies will be in town to participate in this race. We hope to see lots of participants redeeming their $20 gift certificates towards a $75 or more purchase at Todd & Moore.

Run fast and happy,
