USMC Ultimate Challenge Mud Run

It takes approximately 8-10 q-tips to get all of the mud out of your ears. It will take days before all of the mud is out from underneath your fingernails and toenails. And it will take weeks for all of your scrapes and bruises to heal.

It is totally worth it! For the 3rd consecutive year, I am participating along with co-workers, Pat Wood, Steve Wood, and Brian Smith in the USMC Ultimate Challenge Mud Run at The Leatherneck. Borrowed from www.usmcmudrun.org, The USMC Mud Run is a 5.2-mile course with 36 obstacles that each team needs to maneuver requiring team work and loads of determination. The 5.2-mile course is an all-terrain race conducted on trails that includes mud holes, walls, trenches, and other challenging obstacles that require swimming, crawling, climbing and jumping. All of the proceeds from the Mud Run go to the Greater Columbia Marine Foundation to support Marines and their families from the Columbia area who have been wounded or killed while serving on active duty.

It’s a great cause and it’s great fun. And here’s tips from the “veteran” Todd & Moore Mudder’s team:

• Invest in compression fit apparel such as Under Armour Heatgear or Nike DriFit to compete in the Mud Run. Loose fitting or cotton apparel is heavy and will weigh you down.

• Invest in new running shoes and save your old ones for the Mud Run. Many participants choose to save their shoes after the run. Otherwise they are cleaned and donated.

• It is not necessary to duct tape your shoes. Tie them properly and they will stay on just fine.

• Take a before and after picture. You will need proof that the bruises aren’t from playing with your kids!

• Come to compete and be happy you complete the course!

The Mud Run is just a little over two months away. Come see us at Todd & Moore and let us know you are participating. We can help you find the right apparel and tell you all about getting muddy!
