The Boys of Fall...

It seems like yesterday that Santa brought my son Ryan his first real football helmet and set of shoulder pads. He was three years old and the shoulder pads were bigger than he was. After we got everything on him and properly adjusted, he promptly fell over and couldn’t get back up. He spun around on the floor like a June bug. Don’t tell him, but we laughed until we cried.

Ryan is now 16 and we have to look up to him because he stands 6 feet 2 inches tall! He is a junior in high school and playing on the Varsity Football team at Lexington High School. My boy of fall is in the midst of two-a-days, scrimmages, and preparing for the season opener on August 26th against Batesburg-Leesville High School.

I love that he and his dad share a love of football. I mean they LOVE this sport. They love talking about it. They love watching it. They love recounting every game since rec football. They love the camaraderie. They love banging heads and talking trash. They love everything associated with it. They even love talking about uniforms, helmets, and cleats. Over the years, they have spent countless hours at Todd & Moore in the team department looking at equipment, apparel, and cleats. Often buying, but often just looking.

I love small towns. I love high school football in small towns. I love my boy and all the boys of fall.
